Ga West Students Visit NADMO Headquarters

Students from selected schools in the Ga West Municipality, accompanied by their teachers, have paid an educational visit to the NADMO Headquarters in Accra to gain practical insights into the Organisation’s operations and its role in emergency management. The visit aimed to familiarise the students with NADMO’s mandate and operations, particularly its role in disaster prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. Welcoming the students, the Director of the Gender Department, Ms. Rosalyn Graham, thanked the Ga West Municipal Education Directorate for the initiative, describing the engagement as an important opportunity to promote disaster risk awareness among schoolchildren. She explained that NADMO coordinates disaster management efforts across the country to protect lives, property, and livelihoods. Ms. Graham underscored the need to equip young people with the requisite knowledge and skills to identify potential hazards, understand early warning systems and take appropriate safety measures to minimise the impact of disasters. The Director of the Inspectorate Department, Mr. Richard Amo Yartey, also took the students through NADMO’s history, mandate and key disaster management concepts, highlighting the importance of volunteerism and public participation in building resilient communities. The students further experienced a demonstration of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and were introduced to NADMO’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot, which provides access to disaster-related information. The teachers commended NADMO for the educational engagement and called for sustained collaboration to promote disaster awareness among schoolchildren.
