A three-member delegation from Botswana, led by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Gape Kaboyakgosi, paid a courtesy visit to NADMO headquarters in Accra to explore opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in disaster risk reduction and emergency response. Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Director-General of NADMO, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Community Empowerment and Sustainable Livelihoods, Hon. Albert Alalzuuga Akuka, underscored the importance of deepening collaboration between NADMO and the relevant disaster management institutions in Botswana. He noted that cooperation, knowledge-sharing and the exchange of best practices were essential to strengthening disaster preparedness and response capabilities across countries. “Disasters do not respect national boundaries, and effective disaster management requires cooperation, knowledge-sharing and collective action,” he said. Mr. Kaboyakgosi commended NADMO for its role in disaster risk reduction and highlighted the delegation’s interest in learning from Ghana’s experience in early warning systems, community engagement and inter-agency coordination during emergencies. “We have come with open minds and a sincere desire to build lasting ties,” he said. “Ghana’s experience in mobilising communities and responding to emergencies offers valuable lessons for the region.” The discussions also provided an opportunity for both parties to explore areas of mutual interest and identify potential avenues for collaboration across disaster preparedness, emergency response and institutional capacity-building. Both parties expressed optimism that the visit would lay the foundation for a stronger partnership, potentially leading to a formal framework of cooperation, reciprocal visits and the implementation of joint programmes to enhance disaster resilience in both countries.
