NADMO DIRECTOR GENERAL AND SAVANNAH REGIONAL MINISTER ENGAGE UNICEF ON CONFLICT RESPONSE

The Director General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Major (Rtd.) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon and the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Issifu Be-Awuribe have met with a delegation from UNICEF to discuss ongoing humanitarian efforts for displaced persons in the region.

The UNICEF team, led by Mr. Osama Makkawi Koghali, UNICEF Ghana Representative, requested a detailed briefing on the conflict and response measures.

In his remarks, Hon. Be-Awuribe provided background to the conflict and explained the categories of displacement and arrangements made to support those affected. He assured the team that de-escalation efforts were yielding positive results, with recovery processes gradually taking shape.

The Minister appealed for further UNICEF support, particularly in the area of medical consumables, to strengthen the humanitarian response.

He also raised the challenge of displaced persons who prefer not to register in camps, making it difficult to account for all beneficiaries. Despite this, he commended the coordinated efforts so far, including relief support extended to displaced persons who had crossed into Côte d’Ivoire.

On his part, the NADMO Director General underscored the importance of enhanced inter-agency collaboration. He called for the establishment of a central coordination mechanism to ensure effective planning, prevent duplication of efforts, and maximise resources in managing the crisis.
