MAJOR (RTD) DR. KUYON INAUGURATES NORTH EAST REGIONAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

In his address, Dr. Kuyon noted that the committee had been inactive for some time. He commended the President for reviving the initiative in line with the NADMO Act, emphasizing the importance of proactive planning and coordination in protecting lives and property.

“We now have a President who is concerned about disaster management and the safety of citizens. Going back to the Act to form these committees to meet, plan, and deliberate on disaster management is a step in the right direction,” he stated.

The Director General highlighted the significance of prevention and preparedness as the primary focus of the committee's work. "I have always believed in the value of prevention; therefore, this committee should prioritize preparedness. Let us take actions that will lead to preventive measures," he urged.

The North East Regional Minister, who chairs the committee, emphasized the importance of having regular meetings to enhance efficiency. He instructed the NADMO Regional Director to develop a timetable and establish a platform for the committee to function effectively.

“Meetings are crucial for efficiency. A monthly or quarterly schedule will enable us to convene, discuss, identify potential threats, and receive early warning signals. I expect meetings to commence as soon as possible,” the Regional Minister stated.

The inauguration of the committee marks a renewed commitment to collaborative disaster management efforts in the region.
