NADMO BOSS URGES STRENGTHENED DISASTER PREPAREDNESS DURING UPPER WEST VISIT

The delegation was received by Hajia Pognaa Fati Issaka Koray, Chief Director of the RCC, and Alhaji Nura Issah Dawana, Municipal Chief Executive of Wa, who represented the Regional Minister.

Major (Rtd) Dr. Kuyon underscored the crucial role of the Regional Disaster Management Committee in building resilience and ensuring disaster preparedness.

He urged the committee to hold routine meetings, identify potential disaster threats, and plan both preventive and recovery measures. He further emphasised the importance of conducting disaster management drills, stating that “the National Disaster Committee is the foundation of the country’s security.”

Members of the yet-to-be inaugurated Regional Disaster Management Committee briefed the Director General on the current disaster management situation in the region. They noted that chieftaincy disputes had largely subsided, and that monitoring for potential spillages from Bawku and the Savannah areas was ongoing, with only isolated clashes between herders and farmers reported.

The committee also highlighted a recent drowning incident in Lawra and appealed for life jackets to support NADMO officers and local communities.

Major (Rtd) Dr. Kuyon acknowledged the region's vulnerability to both man-made and natural disasters and assured them of the supply of life jackets. He also praised the strong collaboration between NADMO and the RCC, reassuring residents that “they are in safe hands.”

Alhaji Nura Issah Dawana, Wa MCE, mentioned his office’s monthly clean-up exercises as a proactive disaster prevention measure, and called for additional resources to boost this initiative.

The Director General was accompanied by Mr. Ahmed-Rufai Aggudey, Deputy Director General for Technical; Mr. Maxwell Emmanuel Niber, Director of Man-Made Disasters; and Mr. Richard Amo Yartey, Director of Inspectorate.

As part of the visit, the delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Wa Naa, Paramount Chief of the Wala Traditional Area, to formally introduce themselves and pay their respect.
