Let’s Prioritise the Disaster Management Strategy Document - NADMO Boss

Director General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, has called for prioritising the National Disaster Management Strategy, describing it as the most important document regarding Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities.

He made the call during a well-attended Inter-Agency Working Group on Emergencies (IAWGE) meeting organised by the Disease Epidemics Department of NADMO.

He said the document, which is at its preparatory stage, needed not just technical support but financial support as well. “The most important document now is the National Disaster Management Strategy; my appeal to you as a working group is to give it all the support it needs so we know which areas to prioritise as an organisation. It will further guide all of us in our actions and inactions”, he stated.

Maj. Kuyon made it clear that for NADMO to succeed in its operations, all hands needed to be on deck to work for the common good of the citizenry.

The meeting, chaired by Madam Aurore Rusiga, the Representative and Country Director for the World Food Programme (WFP), aimed to review and discuss the best ways to implement key recommendations made by various agencies during previous quarterly meetings.

During two separate slide presentations, meeting participants were updated on the current status of key recommendations and the way forward for IAWGE.

Hon. Albert Alalzuuga Akuka, Director General for Community Empowerment and Sustainable Livelihood, was appointed Co-chair of IAWGE in all subsequent meetings.

Present at the meeting included the Deputy Director General (DDG) in charge of Operations, Hon. Teddy Addi Safori, Ahmed Rufai Bolas, DDG in charge of Technical, representatives from the UN system and some directors of NADMO.
