NADMO HQ receives 14 National Service Personnel

A 2-day intensive Orientation was organized by NADMO for fourteen newly Service Personnel at the Conference Room from Thursday 14th September to Friday 15th September, 2017.

It was initiated by the Human Resource Department (NADMO) as part of its Official duties planned by the National Service Secretariat, Ghana.

The Intensive Orientation was to groom and prepare the newly staff on the working atmosphere of NADMO and how it operates as a Disaster Management Service.

A warm welcome address was given by the Director General of NADMO, Hon. Eric Nana Agyeman Prempeh, who expressed his profound pleasure of having them in NADMO for their Service. He said, they are most privileged to have NADMO as their Service point, for they will not only come to work but also learn more for their personal interests.

Hon Eric schooled the service personal on how NADMO prevents, mitigates and attends to Disasters. He mentioned how the Sierra-Leone Disaster occurred and said, it was Human Nature (Man –Made). ‘’The Disaster that took over five hundred lives and destroyed millions of properties could have been prevented “he lamented.

Hon. Eric said, he was committed to set up a University where people will enroll and study Disaster Management and its Prevention to serve as a catalyst in minimizing disasters in Ghana.
He assured the Service Personnel of NADMO’s Preparedness to fight any flood, should Accra or other Regions be affected in the coming raining season.

Madam Habibatu Walankaki, Head of Administration also welcomed the Service personnel and urged them to keenly abide by the dos and dont’s of the Organization for a healthy working atmosphere. She further asked them to see themselves as fully employed staff and put in their best to help the Organization during their tenure.

The fourteen personnel of whom six are Females and Eight men were drawn from different Government Universities and Private Universities.

The first day of the Orientation saw six different power point presentations by some Heads/Staff from the Headquarters on their various departmental Structure, Activities, Challenges and Successes as a department in the Organisation.

Immense contributions were seen on the second day of the orientation as the personnel were familiar with the work of NADMO. They were so interactive and engaged the Departmental Heads with questions and suggestions after each presentation.

Hajia Mariama Zakari,a staff from the PR unit who stood in as the M.C,did a presentation on the work of the PR unit and also gingered the program with her Journalistic skills by making the personnel felt lively during the questions, answers and suggestions time slated at the end of each presentation.

Elvis Appiah, one of the service personnel, urged NADMO to set up a TV Station where educational programs, Presentations and other NADMO related Issues could be aired for the general public to see the bigger picture of NADMO and not what they perceived, as just giving out rice and Oil.

Amongst the departments that presented were Fires&Lighting, Disease Epidemics, Relief&Reconstruction,Urban Search &Rescue, Pest&Insect Infestation, Hydromet, Climate Change, Man-Made, Geological/Nuclear& Radiological and DVG/Livelihoods.

The Orientation ended successfully with a familiarization tour to some key offices at the Headquarters for the personnel to get acquainted during their one year stay.
