The Government of Ghana through the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has supported disaster victims of Sierra Leone with relief items worth $1million.
The support followed an international appeal by the Sierra Leonean President, Mr. Ernest Bai Koroma after the country was hit by devastating mudslides and flooding, killing more than 419 people and rendering about 3,000 people homeless.
The items included mattresses, blankets, rain coats, bale of used clothing, generators and food items such as rice, cooking oil, powdered milk and sugar.
Others included plastic items such as cups, plates, buckets and basins, boxes of chlorine and assorted anti-malarial and pain relief medication as well as mosquito nets.
In addition, a team of NADMO’s personnel, led by the Director General, Hon. Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh were also in the country to help with search and recovery efforts and train Sierra Leonean officials on disaster management.
