Press Conference by the Director-General of NADMO, Hon. Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh on the Opening of the Bagre Dam on Wednesday, 22nd August 2018

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) will like to inform the general public, especially those living along the Banks of the Black and White Volta that the Sonabel Authorities of Burkina Faso, - Managers of the Bagre Dam, have given notice that, with the rising trend in the volume of water in the Dam at 80% this year compared to 50% rise in the volume of water same period last year, it has become imperative that spillage of the dam, which was scheduled for first week in September this year, be done earlier than scheduled.

Spillage of the Bagre Dam will be done on Thursday 23rd August, 2018 and beyond. Considering the volume of water in both the Black and White Volta, the spillage will result in both the black and White Volta overflowing their Banks and thereby affecting ALL the people living along the Banks of both rivers.

The Northern, Upper East, Upper West, Northern Volta and Afram Plains in the Eastern Region will be affected by the spillage. The following Districts in the;

NADMO has sent a Team from its Operations Department at the Headquarters, headed by its Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations, Mr. Abu Ramadan to pitch camp in Walewale and Zebilla to help affected people in any rescue operations to help save the lives of those living along the banks of these rivers, who are likely to be in danger as a result of the spillage and over flow of these rivers.

Meanwhile NADMO Ghana urges all those living along the banks of the Black and White Volta to move along with their valuables to higher grounds for their safety.

The NADMO Team will be on-hand to give you all the needed support to ensure the safety of your lives and valuables.

This alert to the public is as a result of the effective collaboration between NADMO Ghana and Sonabel Authority of Burkina Faso, which started last year and culminated in the Authorities of Burkina Faso giving Ghana’s NADMO the early warning message to be relayed to our people.

All plans are underway, and we are in collaboration with the UN Agencies, the 48 Engineer Regiment, the Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, the Hydro-Meteorological Services, District Assemblies and the affected communities to help mitigate the effect of the spillage on our people.

On this note, I duly launch the operation THUNDERBOLT which is aimed at helping Safeguard Lives and Properties.

NADMO Ghana is counting on your understanding and continuous cooperation in this exercise. Thank you.
