NADMO Headquarters Holds Staff Durbar
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) held its first Staff Durbar at the organisation’s headquarters in Accra. The purpose of the durbar was for management to interact with employees and address key concerns.
Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, Director General of NADMO, in his opening address, called for staff to uphold a positive attitude and commitment to their work while acknowledging the invaluable sacrifices and contributions of staff in managing disasters.
“I would like to express my profound appreciation to the staff and the regional team for your dedication and swift response to recent disasters and emergencies,” he stated.
The Director General underscored the importance of preparedness in anticipation of the heavy rainfall expected in the coming months. He emphasised that NADMO has activated its emergency response plan across all regions, municipalities, and districts to mitigate the potential impact of floods and related emergencies.
Major (Rtd) Dr. Kuyon emphasised the importance of NADMO's collaboration with other organisations to improve disaster management and response efforts. He noted that NADMO is working with the Forestry Commission to acquire chainsaws, which will assist the Operations Team in quickly clearing blocked routes caused by fallen trees during windstorms.
The Director General expressed Management’s commitment to improve staff working conditions and announced that “a committee has been established to draft a scheme of service for the organisation”.
Regarding staff promotions, the Director General acknowledged that this concern has been recognised and a committee will be instituted to address promotion matters. He highlighted recent advancements, noting that some staff members nearing retirement, specifically, those with as little as three months remaining, have been promoted as part of the efforts to motivate and recognise long-serving personnel.
Staff were also encouraged to share their suggestions regarding work and welfare issues.
Attending the Staff Durbar were Deputy Director Generals, regional officers, and NADMO staff from across the country, who joined virtually.
