NADMO Boss Calls on Greater Accra Regional Minister

Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, Director General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has expressed the organization’s readiness to collaborate with key stakeholders to mitigate the impact of this year’s rains on citizens.

He said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Ocloo, at her office on Monday, March 17, 2025. The visit aimed to enhance collaboration between NADMO and the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) for better preparation for this year's rainy season.

For a start, he said NADMO had already met with its regional directors and is currently working to revive the various Disaster Management Committees to ensure the smooth running of its preparedness programme ahead of the rains.

He expressed grave concerns about the number of unauthorized structures currently built on waterways, stressing that it is one of NADMO’s biggest challenges.

He, therefore, appealed to the Regional Minister to use her office to find a lasting solution to the issue. “I assure you to use my office to provide the needed security personnel to enable your office to embark on any demolition exercise to clear the way for the flood waters”, he stated.

The Regional Minister expressed gratitude to the NADMO Director General and his team for their visit. She stated that her office has developed a schedule for several planned demolition exercises in the Greater Accra Region.

She mentioned various structures built on waterways have been marked for demolition, and she emphasized the importance of establishing a 24-hour task force to prevent individuals from rebuilding in those areas.

According to the Minister, some unauthorized structures within the Tema area have been demolished, and more demolitions are planned before the rains arrive.

The Director General, Major (Rtd) Dr. Kuyon was accompanied by Deputy Director General (DDG) Operations, Hon. Teddy Addi Safori, DDG Technical, Mr. Ahmed Rufai Bolas, DDG Finance and Administration, Hajia Lutfia Saeed Jamal (PHD), DDG Protocol and Relief, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, DDG Community Empowerment and Sustainable Livelihood, Hon.
